Doctor's Desk

Closing the treatment gap for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the world's fourth deadliest disease.

We deliver a mobile-based rehabilitation programme to COPD patients, making treatment accessible in areas where it is currently lacking.

COPD is a degenerative lung condition, primarily caused by smoking and air pollution, which leads to respiratory and heart failure.

The Problem

COPD is a major global health issue affecting 1 in 10 people worldwide and is the fourth leading cause of death globally.

Despite effective treatment existing through pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), access remains extremely limited in lower-income settings due to insufficient healthcare capacity and medical training. As a result, 90% of COPD deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The disease is debilitating, characterized by persistent breathlessness and frequent respiratory infections, often leading to social isolation and economic hardship.

Our Solution

We provide a digital rehabilitation programme, including chest physiotherapy, breathing exercises, and lifestyle changes, for use in LMICs.

This makes life-changing treatment accessible to patients who currently receive no care.

Our solution can be accessed anywhere at any time, and takes pressure off healthcare systems by reducing hospital admissions.

Our Potential Impact

At scale, we expect to avert a disability-adjusted life year (DALY) for just $20—five times better than GiveWell's benchmark.

We estimate that every patient who completes our digital PR programme gains over six months of healthy life. With over 100 million COPD sufferers in India alone, we need to reach just 4,000 patients per year to meet GiveWell's cost-effectiveness bar.

Our goal is to improve quality of life for more than 20,000 people annually, potentially saving over 400 lifetime equivalents per year at scale, with a 10% reduced mortality risk per treated patient.
